CLARK FREEPORT — Farmers from Central Luzon and other parts of the country will join a series of protest the Bagong Alyansang Makbayan (Bayan) has set against the visit of US President Donald Trump in the country.

“Trump’s visit is bad news especially to poor countries. He’s the number one sales agent not only of one-sided economic policies that further brought sufferings to the people of third world countries like the Philippines but also of unjust wars to countries that defy its hegemony and asserting its own sovereignty,” Anakpawis Partylist Representative Ariel Casialo said. The Anakpawis lawmaker also said that the US played a vital role on the government’s anti-insurgency campaign as previous and present administrations continue to espouse the US-made counter-insurgency manual which brought death and destruction in the countryside. According to the solon, some 91 cases of extra-judicial killings of peasant activists have been already recorded under Duterte’s alleged “Oplan Kapayapaan.” Aside from these, US companies for decades have been feasting and raking billions of dollars as profit from PH agriculture, he added.

Thousands of hectares of agricultural lands particularly in the Mindanao regions continuously in the hands of US owned agri corporations. Data showed that the United States remain as the country’s major trading partner with $6.1-billion exports and $8.7-billion imports to the Philippines. “Trump’s visit spells doom not only to the livelihood to the majority of rural people but the intensifying military aggression in the countryside. The harbinger of death and destruction should be welcomed with series of protest and condemn its government’s continuing political, military and economic intervention in our country”, Casilao said.
