PDEA seized P84 million drugs in 1,916 operations
ANGELES CITY — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has arrested illegal drug personalities in 1,916 operations where some P84 million were seized.
PDEA Chief of Staff Irish Calaguas issued the statement following reports that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be involved again in the war against drugs. “Although being the sole agency in the government’s war against drugs and faced with so many challenges, PDEA was able to conduct a total of 1,916 operations and was able to seize a total of P84 million worth of illegal drugs from October 10 to November 28, 2017,” Calaguas said. At the same time, Calaguas said PDEA welcomes the return of the PNP in the fight against illegal drugs. “It is the wish of PDEA that PNP be ordered back to carry out the war on illegal drugs since [our agency] is admittedly undermanned, ill equipped and under budget,” she added.
Malacanang recently said that President Duterte is still considering whether to give back to the police the lead role in the crackdown on illegal drugs even as he repeatedly raised doubts on PDEA’s capability to enforce the campaign.
