Public cautioned on use of electronic candles

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has cautioned the public against the purchase and use of electronic candles. The reminder came prior to the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day when thousands of Filipinos are expected to use electronic candles in remembering their departed loved ones. DTI-Central Luzon Public Information Officer Warren Serrano said buyers and consumers must be mindful of the safety precautions that come along the product packaging. He noted that the packaging must also include its voltage, name of manufacturer or importer, and country of origin if imported. “Dapat kumpleto lahat ‘yan kasi isa ‘yan sa mga requirement ng DTI before i-release ang products sa market. Kung wala ang mga information na ‘yan, most probably fake ang product (The packaging must contain all those information, because those are required by the DTI so the products would be released to the market),” he said.

Serrano also reminded the public to look for the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers for imported items as part of the assurance that it underwent proper testing and inspection. Serrano also urged the buying public to avoid purchasing cheap and substandard items at the expense of their families’ safety. He noted that thriftiness is a good trait but must not compensate the life of any person or group.
